Roots
The Executive
The Executive was acquired by the Abrosie Brothers on the 2nd June 1975. The brothers had over 100 years of retail experience between them. Their father - John Barbour - began dealing in clothing on his arrival in South Africa in 1934. The retail fashion industry is one of the most exciting businesses you can experience, where you meet different types of people from all walks of life. These people not only want to feel good, they also want to look good in exclusive branded clothing.
Our Own Brand
BAALBEK is born
There were very few international brands in South Africa during the 1970’s. Branded merchandise began coming into South Africa in the mid eighties, but brand holders found that their brands were being copied with fake goods from the East. We then decided it was time to produce our own brand - “BAALBEK”. The majority of our merchandise is produced by highly qualified, international manufactures with only the best fabric and leather used for our clothing, leather wear and shoes.
History
The history of Baalbek
The name “BAALBEK” is from the ancient city of Baalbek situated in the Beqaa Valley of Lebanon, east of the Litani river and 85km northeast of Beirut, the Lebanese capital. The history of Baalbek dates back almost 9000 years to the period of Roman rule. It was initially built as a temple in which the Romans worshipped their gods. The town has a population of approximately 72 000, and every year it is home to the international Baalbek Festival, the oldest and best-known cultural event in the Middle East.
